Gaines Street Pies has teamed up with businesses and food-assistance charities across Tallahassee in Challenging each of us to step up and help feed hungry families in our community during this time of year.
America’s Second Harvest of the Big Bend reports that in our eleven-county region, one in six adults and one in four children lack access to enough safe, nutritious, and socially acceptable food for a healthy and productive life.
Not every bowl is full. That’s why we working to make donating food to those in need as easy as possible. Donate to Second Harvest of the Big Bend HERE.
Twenty-seven percent of Leon County residents live at or below the poverty level. One-third of the people facing hunger in our community are children. Add to that the fact that during the months of May and June, food supplies grow dangerously low among Tallahassee food-assistance charities when demand is up and donations are low. By contributing to our local food charities, you bring the missing ingredient these charities need to help our neighbors. By giving generously and giving often during this critical period and throughout the year, we can make a difference for thousands of children and adults in our community.
Follow us on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram, and check back here for updates on information from our local food charities. You will find these listed for you and displayed on our Tallahassee Food Challenge map.
